Larry Payne Dance

Larry is a professional dancer/teacher/choreographer who has been involved in the dance world
for 25 years.  He has performed in companies in Florida, Los Angeles, and Austin, TX.  He has been
successful in running a competition dance team in the Myrtle Beach, SC area, winning many awards in
the 90's.  Larry himself is a three time Top Teacher award recipient and a former Mr. Dance of
North Carolina.  Larry was a judge for Premier Dance Competitions, which led him to travel all over
the US for a total of 5 years. He has also had the honor of performing at the famed Bolshoi Theater
    in Moscow, USSR!
Larry can be seen as a featured dancer and actor in the movie "Super Mario Brothers."  His
theater  credits include:  Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, West Side Story, Pippin, Grease, HAIR,
Guys  & Dolls, and A Chorus Line, for which he  won the NIETF award for the best choreography!
Summer 2007 found Larry choreographing Hedwig at the Dunes Summer Theatre, followed by
Grease and The Full Monty.  He was nominated for an award for his choreography of Grease by
NIETF.  More recently, during Summer 2008 Larry choreographed Hedwig and the Jesus Christ
Superstar at the" Dunes" in a special production to celebrate an important anniversary year for the
Dunes Foundation.  During spring 2009,  Larry choreographed Jerry's Girls for the Portage
Community Theater in Portage, IN and High School Musical in Michigan City.

During summer of 2009 Larry choreographed and performed in
Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at
the
Dunes Sumer Theatre, a ten-year anniversary
celebration of his association with "The Dunes". Here is a practice for that show:
Aggies' Dance
Larry won the "Best Choreographer Award" for this show on October 25, 2009.  Here, he accepts
    the   NIETF Award
Summer of 2010 found Larry back at the Dunes Theatre, choreographing Evita. For his choreography in
this show he won the NIETF Award for Best Choreography for a second year in a row!
2010 Nietf Awards
He also choreographed the enthusiastically-received "Springtime for Hitler" for The Producers, also at
the Dunes theater Summer 2010, performed by his sometime-tap students, Jeff Schmidt and Marie Crist,
with others.

Even more than performing, Larry loves to teach!! (His love of "making up step
combinations"
comes through in his teaching. Students are not expected to endure
endless repetitions of the same steps!)  He is an enthusiastic, dedicated teacher, who
exites and motivates his students.   Larry enjoys teaching at the Long Beach
Community Center in its large gym.  He encourages everyone who loves to dance--or
thinks they might--to come and join his classes--The only criteria is that you want to
learn to DANCE!
